Well, Facebook never explained how did this URL thing really work or they have kept few secrets. But while using Facebook, I’ve discovered something that may interest you.

Do you have any Gmail address? In Gmail, if your username is username@gmail.com, then you also own u.s.e.r.n.a.m.e@gmail.com (can be hundred of emails actually by positioning dots [.] in between the characters) and email on those address will forward the emails on your actual address username@gmail.com. And you know, Facebook also supports something just like that!

For example: URL of facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg‘s fan page is http://www.facebook.com/markzuckerberg

But when you visit http://www.facebook.com/m.a.r.k.z.u.c.k.e.r.b.e.r.g (Please don’t mind to use your imagination on using dots between the words) you’ll be also forwarded to actual page! Not only that, but Facebook’s url shortening service (that’s still not for public use) http://fb.me also supports this urls! Like http://fb.me/m.a.r.k.z.u.c.k.e.r.b.e.r.g or http://fb.me/markzuckerberg

This is about a comments system upgrade of Facebook. Many people are confusing it with Facebook’s normal comment system upgrade but it’s not. It’s actually facebook social comments plugin update which has been used by many website and blog, including Facebook’s official blog http://blog.facebook.com .

• External domain ads are now showing the domain name below the advert header, just like Google’s Adwords ads.Previously it was not shown on facebook ads.

• Internal domain ads / Facebook pages ad are still not showing domain names yet.

• Most important change I’ve noticed is Facebook ads are not showing any like button!

What do you think about this changes? Will it be good enough for facebook advertisers to be interested on Facebook ads without Facebook’s most famous “Like” feature?

Facebook’s like feature has become a global phenomena and it has became a habit of Facebook users to like what suits with their mentality, not only pictures, videos or status updates but funny, fruitful and cute Quotes like “I’ve probably learnt more from Google than my School lessons!”  What people do to put and like this kind of Quotes is to like some external 3^rd party sites, which opens a backdoor of Facebook Security. These sites actually generate HTML pages titled with that Quotes and generate like button for each individual pages and liking them is actually nothing but sharing that website’s link in Facebook.

This link often may contain malicious contents like virus, Trojan blah blah etc, in where not only you but your friends who are interested to like same quote may get infected too by clicking that link!  Moreover these likes appear in Facebook’s newly added Like box on profile, which is very much annoying.

My point of view is why Facebook don’t lunch a small feature for user to add their own quotes and like each others, with options for sharing them privately & globally. Facebook team can also add quotes of famous persons like Sir Abraham Lincoln and see how much people like them in these days too!  If those 3^rd party site can do it, then why Facebook can’t! It’ll also increase the security of Facebook users by decreasing external back links. They can add a new box or something else to show the quotes a person liked in his Facebook life time.

Facebook Question may not be a successful addition, but believe me; Facebook Quotes will not go down!

After exploring docs.com, I can suggest that, it can be a strongly suggested addition for Facebook. It has some serious option of sharing documents with your Facebook friends with privacy. I don’t know, either Facebook have future plans for it or not, but as Facebook is referring them as one of their special partner, they certainly have reasons. It can be a serious competitor of Google docs, if proper care is taken.

It’s build with the help of Microsoft’s fuse lab and Microsoft office’s integration and currently supports documents like Word documents, Excel Spreadsheet and Microsoft PowerPoint presentation upload and creation with some extra features of photo slideshow, resume etc.  Privacy option is quite tight too.

Recently they have opened a partnership program for writers and publishers along the world to publish their book using Google’s book platform, promote their books & earn when someone read them. It’s a system of promoting your writings on web and earning from it too.

How to add your books?

You can either upload your EBook version or can mail them the printed copy. You’ll need ISBN etc codes to add your book in Google’s library.

Google’s Explanation regarding the program:

According to Google, “As a participant in the Google Books Partner Program, you’re eligible to generate revenue through text-based advertisements which are displayed alongside your books. Although we don’t disclose the exact revenue share, our goal is to enable publishers to generate an alternative revenue stream from their printed content. We’ll send your payment for your account balance in accordance with the Terms and Conditions.”

About the payments system, they commented, “By default, Google will mail you a check (or wire funds to your account if you have set up Electronic Funds Transfer) approximately 30 days after the end of each calendar month if your earned balance is US $100 or more, unless otherwise agreed to in writing (including electronic mail). If your account balance is less than $100, we’ll send you a check or wire funds approximately 30 days after the first month that your balance reaches $100.”

So, it’s one kind of Adsense alike program for book publishers & writers! So, if you’re have a habit of writing or engaged with book publishing network, why not give a try with Google books! It can be a alternative source of your online earning.
