Do you have a Facebook Username for your profile? It’s well known that when you select a username for your facebook Profile, it also modifies your profile URL. If your username is on facebook is MaxPowel, then your profile in Facebook just can be founded without searching by a direct URL http://www.facebook.com/MaxPowel! Not only that, you can set username from your fan pages (that minimum have +25 fans) and application pages. This is known as facebook Vanity URL and this is one thing that brought Facebook one step closer to Social Micro-Blogging site Twitter.

Well, Facebook never explained how did this URL thing really work or they have kept few secrets. But while using Facebook, I’ve discovered something that may interest you.

Do you have any Gmail address? In Gmail, if your username is username@gmail.com, then you also own u.s.e.r.n.a.m.e@gmail.com (can be hundred of emails actually by positioning dots [.] in between the characters) and email on those address will forward the emails on your actual address username@gmail.com. And you know, Facebook also supports something just like that!

For example: URL of facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg‘s fan page is http://www.facebook.com/markzuckerberg

But when you visit http://www.facebook.com/m.a.r.k.z.u.c.k.e.r.b.e.r.g (Please don’t mind to use your imagination on using dots between the words) you’ll be also forwarded to actual page! Not only that, but Facebook’s url shortening service (that’s still not for public use) http://fb.me also supports this urls! Like http://fb.me/m.a.r.k.z.u.c.k.e.r.b.e.r.g or http://fb.me/markzuckerberg

And Facebook username settings option actually block the use of your username with dots probabilities by someone else after you’ve setted your username! Like my username on Facebook is “SPYLUV” and “S.P.Y.L.U.V” and all other dot probabilities are blocked on Facebook username registration just after I’ve used it!

So what do you think? Will you be interested in using your short URL http://fb.me/username on your personal address card to link your Facebook Profile? Leave a comment..

Hi there all! Blogging after quite a time.. These days time is running so fast that, I hardly get enough time to find something creative and write it in here. But still, today I wish to put something in here. I already suggested it on Facebook related news blog, AllFacebook.com and thanks to NickONell who is kind enough to put those the site.

This is about a comments system upgrade of Facebook. Many people are confusing it with Facebook’s normal comment system upgrade but it’s not. It’s actually facebook social comments plugin update which has been used by many website and blog, including Facebook’s official blog http://blog.facebook.com .

You can see this comments system on action on > http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=436800707130

Updates are:

1. Threaded Comment system

2. Voting of comments

3. Users Location/Work or education Info by the side of his name

4. Number of comment by someone on thread display

5. Percentage of likeness

Any web designer who may like to use this Facebook comments system in his website, can have a visit on >http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/comments but I personally think DISQUS commenting system is still best. What do you think?

External domain ads are now showing the domain name below the advert header, just like Google’s Adwords ads.Previously it was not shown on facebook ads.

Internal domain ads / Facebook pages ad are still not showing domain names yet.

Most important change I’ve noticed is Facebook ads are not showing any like button!

What do you think about this changes? Will it be good enough for facebook advertisers to be interested on Facebook ads without Facebook’s most famous “Like” feature?

But today is an event that I don’t want to miss. And it’s Google’s 12th birthday. I believe who ever have used or using internet somehow connected with Google. It’s really hard to imagine a world without Google. I myself started my internet engagement with Yahoo! But when I start using Google, I was amazed how vast and how simple it’s. That’s the thing everyone like about Google, It’s Simple.

Few days ago, Facebook has rolled out a feature named Facebook Question as a beta project, which was tested with some user base across the Facebook. Later it has been reported that, Facebook has shut down developing this question feature and removed it from their testing list (I can’t confirm it though).

Have a look in the image below. I’m sure you’re quite familiar with this type of notification on your Facebook wall.

It's how it appears!

Facebook’s like feature has become a global phenomena and it has became a habit of Facebook users to like what suits with their mentality, not only pictures, videos or status updates but funny, fruitful and cute Quotes like “I’ve probably learnt more from Google than my School lessons!” What people do to put and like this kind of Quotes is to like some external 3rd party sites, which opens a backdoor of Facebook Security. These sites actually generate HTML pages titled with that Quotes and generate like button for each individual pages and liking them is actually nothing but sharing that website’s link in Facebook.

Title of that webpage

This link often may contain malicious contents like virus, Trojan blah blah etc, in where not only you but your friends who are interested to like same quote may get infected too by clicking that link! Moreover these likes appear in Facebook’s newly added Like box on profile, which is very much annoying.

My point of view is why Facebook don’t lunch a small feature for user to add their own quotes and like each others, with options for sharing them privately & globally. Facebook team can also add quotes of famous persons like Sir Abraham Lincoln and see how much people like them in these days too! If those 3rd party site can do it, then why Facebook can’t! It’ll also increase the security of Facebook users by decreasing external back links. They can add a new box or something else to show the quotes a person liked in his Facebook life time.

Facebook Question may not be a successful addition, but believe me; Facebook Quotes will not go down!

Out of curiosity, while I was looking Facebook’s privacy option today, I found instant personalization under Applications, games and websites privacy option. Digging inside, I’ve found few Facebook’s exclusive partner website’s like Pandora, Yelp and most interesting Docs.com.

Docs.com

After exploring docs.com, I can suggest that, it can be a strongly suggested addition for Facebook. It has some serious option of sharing documents with your Facebook friends with privacy. I don’t know, either Facebook have future plans for it or not, but as Facebook is referring them as one of their special partner, they certainly have reasons. It can be a serious competitor of Google docs, if proper care is taken.

It’s build with the help of Microsoft’s fuse lab and Microsoft office’s integration and currently supports documents like Word documents, Excel Spreadsheet and Microsoft PowerPoint presentation upload and creation with some extra features of photo slideshow, resume etc. Privacy option is quite tight too.

Sharing with privacy

And I really loved the way it appears under the tab of my profile. You can share your document with outside world too. Your facebook profile username will appear as your docs.com link, like, http://docs.com/@spyluv

Docs on Facebook Profile

I’m so impressed that, I can’t forget to refer you to try this service on http://docs.com and share your documents with your Facebook friends and your office colleagues. I believe you’ll have reasons to like it.

» You can always read more on docs.com’s official blog: http://blog.docs.com

Who doesn’t love to read books, at least story books? Based on this theory, Google is developing their books project books.google.com. It’s basically a online library where online version of books can be kept and read.

Recently they have opened a partnership program for writers and publishers along the world to publish their book using Google’s book platform, promote their books & earn when someone read them. It’s a system of promoting your writings on web and earning from it too.

How to add your books?

You can either upload your EBook version or can mail them the printed copy. You’ll need ISBN etc codes to add your book in Google’s library.

Google’s Explanation regarding the program:

According to Google, “As a participant in the Google Books Partner Program, you’re eligible to generate revenue through text-based advertisements which are displayed alongside your books. Although we don’t disclose the exact revenue share, our goal is to enable publishers to generate an alternative revenue stream from their printed content. We’ll send your payment for your account balance in accordance with the Terms and Conditions.”

About the payments system, they commented, “By default, Google will mail you a check (or wire funds to your account if you have set up Electronic Funds Transfer) approximately 30 days after the end of each calendar month if your earned balance is US $100 or more, unless otherwise agreed to in writing (including electronic mail).

It’s People, who power your blog. Their comment is valuable and help you to guide your site to proper way of success. So, putting importance on your website’s visitor’s comment system is a must! DISQUS comment system puts a valuable impact in this.

What is DISQUS?

According to DISQUS developers, “Disqus (dis·cuss • dĭ-skŭs’) is all about changing the way people think about discussion on the web. We’re big believers in the conversations and communities that form on blogs and other sites.”

Website: http://disqus.com

DISQUS is based on 2 services, one is for normal commentators and another one is for publishers.

DISQUS Profile:

For normal commentators, The service is named as DISQUS profile. As you see, DISQUS is getting popularity among a large number of community, they are targeting to build a community within it, Just like facebook comments across the globe, DISQUS has it’s own profiling system too. One Profile for thousand of site. They defined it as “Disqus Profile lets you get the most out of the comments you post on sites all around the web. Take back control of what you’ve written by tracking and managing your comments all in one place. You can also use Disqus Profile to effortless follow and reply to what people are talking about, on and across sites.”

Open a DISQUS profile today and start commenting using DISQUS, I’m sure it’ll not be a waste of time for you. For your commets using DISQUS profile you’ll be ranked along not only one site but all other sites too.

Visit: http://disqus.com/comments/

DISQUS Comments:

And for publishers, who are building own sites putting importance on website’s comment system, DISQUS provides own comments system known as DISQUS comments. It’s a service that integrates your blog or website’s normal comment system with DISQUS comment system so that you can get fruit from both of them. You can get details about your website’s commentators (IPs, Email etc) and enjoy the full power of moderation with a powerful moderation panel. And believe me, It’s extremely fast. You can integrate it with your WordPress, blogger blog and most other famous platform for free & you don’t have to worry about you previous comments, DISQUS can migrate them all inside it. Most important thing is, You’ll get a backup of your comments within DISQUS, So if sometimes your blog is having trouble with it’s comments, you can restore it just from DISQUS. DISQUS comments don’t only offer commenting using DISQUS profile but also using some other services, like facebook connect, Twitter and Yahoo and Open ID support too. You can add anyone as a comment moderator of your website, who have a DISQUS profile.

It’s how they defined it, “Disqus Comments is a comment system and moderation tool for your site. This service lets you add next-gen community management and social web integrations to any site on any platform. Hundreds of thousands of sites, from small blogs to large publications, rely on Disqus Comments for their discussion communities.”

So here is the destination for publishers: http://disqus.com/profile/

Once again highlighting DISQUS top features:
